Born in 1970, Christiane Wirtz studied law in Berlin. She worked as a journalist for Süddeutsche Zeitung and Deutschlandfunk. As a freelance journalist, she spent a year in Tel Aviv. From 2014–2016, she was the deputy spokesperson for the German federal government, then moved to the Ministry of Justice as a state secretary. Since 2020, she has returned to working as a freelance journalist and author. She lives in Berlin.

Tel Aviv, 2008. After her grandmother’s death, young radio journalist Mia reaches a turning point. Her station sends her to Tel Aviv, where she meets cameraman David, the son of Polish-Bulgarian Jews. It’s love at first sight – but David is married and recently adopted a daughter.
With David’s help, Mia begins to confront her own family history, especially the loss of her mother when she was just seven years old. Far from home, Mia searches for answers to the questions that have haunted her since childhood, hoping to make peace with the past. In a country under constant threat, and in her love for a man, she tries to find her place and fill the void left by her mother’s absence.
